Originally published the week of the 2020 United States Presidential Election

Dear People of God in these United States of America, my fellow Christ Followers, of all “races”, ethnicities and political persuasions, please hear me. I beggeth thee!
If there is ever a time that this nation will need to see us following our Savior, it’s gonna be this week and the next few weeks ahead. I am shaking my head right now because, based on that last few months and all that we are seeing around us, I believe that this is going to be a rough week. You and I must remember, regardless of who is ultimately selected as president, our hope is not in a political party or figure. Yes, we do have to do our part to promote justice and righteousness in the place that God has called us (this country). BUT, we do this to the glory of God, not for the glory of our political preferences or party. In financial services you will regularly see this disclaimer: “Past performance is not indicative of future results”. However, when it comes to human behavior, past performance typically is the best predictor of what to expect from ourselves and others. Unless there is a disruptor. If you’ve been acting a fool all year, it is likely that you will continue to do so this week. However, I have come to be a disruptor. PLEASE, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, let us remember I Peter 2:9-10:
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Whatever happens this week, we each need to remember: (1) who we are and (2) whose we are. And then we need to act like we know who and whose. For me, that will mean more focused time with Him (worship, Bible time, prayers) and rest. I am human and I feel very strongly about many of the issues that are at stake as well as the future of this country. However, I cannot let my concerns (or in some cases fears) shape me or dictate my reactions and responses to the very people that I am called to love and serve. I want to avoid acting in ways that are unloving, unkind, hurtful, judgmental, prideful or just plain acting a fool. I cannot do this on my own, especially when my voicemail, email, mailbox, and text messages are blowing up with messages from people who don’t know me or who have never reached out to me before, asking me for my money or my vote. Not to mention to ridiculous TV and radio ads but…. I digress.
Anyhoo, I will leave you with these:
“City set on a hill.”
“Salt of the earth.”
“Light of the world.”
“Let your light shine.”
Jesus said all these things to us. To you and to me.
I know that many believers are already in prayer and have been for weeks/months. Thank you and please keep the prayers going up! There are others that need a disruption to help get the focus where it should be. So here you go…..
